SEE BELOW FOR IMPORTANT DECEMBER MEETING CHANGES - We will be having dinner this year on December 12 at a different location so reservations are required by December 5.
Milwaukee Philatelic Society membership meetings are currently held in the Sonia Bielmeier Room at the Brookfield Public Library, 1900 N. Calhoun Road, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Parking is available on the north side of the building. The membership meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. Check the Calendar for any date changes or meeting location changes that may occur.
The doors open at 6:00 PM and the meeting starts at 6:30 PM. Attendees are encouraged to come early to socialize or check out the inventory on hand for sale or trade. The public is always welcome to attend the meetings.
Membership meetings include a business meeting, an educational program and other features. The July meeting is time for our "Ice Cream Social" and a feast takes place at our December Christmas meeting.
Mini auctions are held at most meetings except for the April and November meetings when major auctions are held. At the club auctions there are usually some philatelic items that can be purchased with cash or MPS issued "stamp bucks" rather than actual cash. The club has a program whereby members may earn MPS "stamp bucks" for a wide variety of actions within the club, from attending meetings to volunteering for various activities. Auction forms can be found on the documents page.
Some programs have been announced and more will be announced soon. See the Calendar for more details.
Auction forms and current meeting agendas can be found on the Documents page.
Our society will have an end-of-the-year (Christmas) party at Alioto’s Restaurant 3041 N. Mayfair Rd in Wauwatosa on December 12 in lieu of our regular meeting. This event will be from 6 pm until 9 pm with salad served at about 6:30 pm. You can come early if you want for a cocktail at the bar and stay late for that matter. So don’t go to the Brookfield Library on Tuesday, December 12th for our monthly get-together because we won’t be there.
The cost is $10.00 per person and you can bring a guest for the same price. The club will pick up the rest of the cost. Get your money in by December 5th. Send it to Gary Meyer at 3275 N. 81st St. Milwaukee, WI. 53222. We have to submit a final count before the gala so you have to reserve in advance.
Entrees include your choice of a 12 oz. New York Strip Steak, Steak and Grilled Shrimp, Chicken (or eggplant) Parmesan, Vegetarian (Eggplant Parmesan) or Fresh Salmon. You select it on arrival. The dinner includes salad with choice of dressing, Italian bread, coffee and sherbet for dessert. There will be a “soda bar” with a cola, white soda or diet available and if you want something a little bit stronger the cash bar will be open.
There will be door prizes and besides socializing we will salute our outgoing president, count the ballots and welcome the new administration for this our upcoming 125th anniversary as a society.
The MPS board decided to have this extravaganza this year due to the bonanza we received from the sale at auction of the 502e stamp we found in a donation, the success of our recent Milcopex show and the stability of our treasury. This was a way to benefit the members and thank them. Make sure to thank Gary for his effort regarding the 503e.
But there’s more: Because of the 502e windfall there will be a dues holiday for next year – yes, that’s right, every member in good standing gets a free year of dues so you can put that $10 back in your pocket. If you have already paid next year’s dues or get the second year free because you are a new member then this will be added on for future dues payment. That’s not all. The board also decided to splurge and purchase the newest issue of the Scott Specialized Catalogue of the World 1840-1940.
